Welcome to the first report about the Hillcrest High School Under 15 Rugby Team.
The future success of Hillcrest High rugby is assured, if you look at the skill level of some of the players in this team. From a solid and competitive front row all the way through to a speedy backline we have players of immense talent including:
Te Ra Rimaha has the build, strength and more importantly the technique to be an outstanding prop forward. His speed around the paddock often amazes the opposition, and many times he is the first player to the breakdown.
Jake Henderson plays like the energizer bunny. He just never stops. Jake’s ability to play in different positions makes him an invaluable team member.
Robbie Mason is big and strong with speed to burn, and I believe he is one of the best lock forwards playing at this level.
Taurua Reti is a visionary rugby player. Playing at 1st 5/8th he runs the backline to perfection.
I believe Dylan Griffin is one of the hardest tackling and running 2nd 5/8ths in our competition. Many an opposition player has found out that the tall lean Hillcrest number 12 can tackle very well.
Jerry Stensness is one of those gifted players who seem to have all the time in the world. One of the safest fullbacks around, Jerry gives the rest of the team plenty of confidence as the last line of defense.
No team is complete without a good on field leader and the Hillcrest High under 15’s have, in Chris Johnston, one such leader. A fearless tackler Chris has yet to be out played in the flanker position.
These boys make up a small part of the team and as our season progresses this great bunch of rugby players are developing into a very tight group, and as long as they continue playing rugby Hillcrest High will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Thank You
Gordon Griffin.
